Genesis 21:9-21
For every woman who’s ever felt abandoned, invisible, or unsure of her next step… this is for you.
“Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water.” – Genesis 21:19
Hagar wasn’t just a maidservant. She was a mother. A woman. A soul created in the image of God. Yet her story starts with being used, dismissed, and cast out.
Genesis 21 is a chapter many of us know by heart, even if we’ve never read it. Because we’ve lived it.
We’ve been her.
We know what it’s like to be left to figure things out with a child on our hip and pain in our chest.
We’ve cried out to God in empty rooms with bills due and no idea how to stretch the little we have.
We’ve sat in silence after realizing the man who fathered our child has moved on—and we weren’t part of the plan.
Like Hagar, we’ve wandered. Not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually—disoriented, desperate, trying to make it work.
And like her, we’ve come to that wilderness moment:
No money.
No answers.
No backup.
Just tears and questions.
But it was in that place—the place of breaking—that God opened her eyes.
Not only did He show her a hidden well…
He gave her a prophetic word about her son’s future.
He told her: “I see you. I see him. I’ve got you both.”
Hagar met God personally in that moment. Not through Abraham. Not through Sarah. But through a direct encounter.
She met El-Roi — The God Who Sees Me.
🙏🏽 A Word for You Today
You are not invisible.
You are not forgotten.
And the wilderness is not the end of your story—it’s the place where vision is restored and identity is birthed.
You may not know what’s next, but God does.
You may not have it all together, but God is holding it all.
He sees you. He hears you. He will not leave you.
🔥 Journal Prompt:
Have you had a "Hagar moment"? A time when God saw you in your lowest place and made a way?
Write it down. Or better yet—share your story in the comments to encourage someone else who’s still in the wilderness.
