The one phone habit that beats an AI scam call
Here's a quick midweek tip that takes ten seconds to learn and could save someone you love a lot of money. Scammers can now copy a real person's voice. They use it to call and say a family member is in trouble and needs money right now. It can sound exactly like your grandson or your daughter. The good news is that you don't need to understand any of the tech to beat it. There's just one habit. Hang up and call back. If a call ever feels scary or rushed, hang up. Then call that person back yourself, on a number you already have (in your contacts, or on the back of your card). A scammer can fake a voice. They cannot answer a phone that you are calling. That's the whole thing. Hang up, and call back on a number you trust. Have you ever gotten a call like this, or know someone who has? Tell me about it in the comments. I read every one.

Quick Monday Question
When a call or text comes in out of nowhere and pushes you to act fast ("pay now," "your account's locked," "it's me, I'm in trouble"), what do you usually do? No wrong answer. Tomorrow I've got a new video on spotting these, so I'm curious where everyone's at right now.

Plain English: how can AI "fake" someone's voice?
You may have heard that scammers can now use AI to copy a person's voice. It sounds scary, so let's take the mystery out of it in plain words. Here's all it means: with a short clip of someone talking (even a few seconds from a voicemail or an online video), some computer programs can now make a new recording that sounds like that person saying anything at all. It is not magic, and it is not the real person. It is a copy, like a very good impression. Why it matters: a scammer might call and play a voice that sounds like your grandchild or your child, saying they're in trouble and need money right now. The fake voice is there to scare you into acting fast, before you can think. The good news: you're never powerless against it. There's one simple habit that beats it every time, and I'll show you in this week's video. For now, just know this: if a call makes you feel rushed and afraid, that feeling is the warning sign. Slow down. Hang up. Call the person back on a number you already have for them. Have you (or someone you know) ever gotten a call like this? Tell us in the comments. No question is too small here.

What you should never type into an AI
AI chatbots are safe to use for everyday things. But like anything online, there is a short list of stuff you should keep to yourself. Do not type into an AI chatbot: - Your passwords or bank login. - Your full credit card or bank account number. - Your Social Security number. - Anything you would not want a stranger to read. A good rule of thumb: if you would not write it on a postcard, do not paste it into an AI. You can still ask AI about money or forms in general terms, without ever handing over the private numbers. Keep those for the real bank, on a site or a phone call you trust.

The one habit that stops most AI scams
Scammers are now using AI to sound more real than ever. A voice on the phone that sounds like a grandchild. An email that looks exactly like your bank. It is unsettling, and it is worth taking seriously. Here is the single habit that stops most of them: slow down, and check on a channel you already trust. If you get an urgent call, text, or email asking for money or a code, do not act in the moment. Hang up. Then reach the person or the company back on a number you already have (not the one they just gave you). A real bank, and a real family member, will always be fine with you calling back to be sure. Urgency is the scammer's favorite tool. Slowing down takes it away. We have a full Staying Safe section in the Classroom if you want the step-by-step.
