⚽ Why Speed Is the #1 Physical Skill Scouts Notice in Trials...let's see who's awake.
One thing many players and parents underestimate when thinking about overseas trials is speed. In most trial environments, scouts may only watch a player for 10–15 minutes before forming an opinion. In that short window, the things that stand out first are usually physical traits, not detailed technical ability. The players who often get noticed quickly tend to: • Accelerate faster to the ball • Close space quickly when defending • Separate from defenders when attacking • Recover faster after mistakes These moments happen in seconds, and speed changes how they look. This doesn’t mean technique isn’t important. It absolutely is. But in a trial setting, speed and explosiveness often create the first impression that keeps scouts watching longer. The good news is that speed is something players can develop with the right training and movement patterns. If you're preparing for trials, a simple question to ask is: Is my player working on speed and acceleration as much as they work on ball skills? I'm curious to hear from the community: What position does your player play, and what do you think their strongest physical quality is right now? Speed Strength Endurance Agility Drop it below 👇

How to Find a Scout (Beginner's Guide)
One of the most common questions I get from players and parents is: "How do I actually get in front of a scout?" Here's the honest answer — you don't wait for them to find you. You go to them. Three places to start this week: 1. Google "[your city] football trials 2026" and register for one. 2. Film a 60-second highlight clip at your next training session or pull some clips down from Hudl or Taka. 3. Find one scout or academy on Instagram and send a clean, professional DM. Be ready to follow up because if your outreach is cold, you'll need to be patient. That's it. Three actions. This week. Who's going to try this? Let me know below and I'll give you some feedback on your approach. 👇
