"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
This verse is a promise that when we honestly own up to what we’ve done wrong, God won’t hold it against us. God forgives and wipes the slate clean because that’s who he is. The verse highlights two aspects of God’s character: faithfulness (he keeps his word to forgive) and justice (forgiveness is grounded in Christ’s sacrifice)
The verse is treated it as a reminder for believers that confession restores fellowship and brings cleansing. This verse could be used as an invitation to give their lives to Christ. Basically, it encourages honesty with God and assures us that forgiveness is already on the table.
Confession of your sins requires you to be completely honest. God already knows what sin you have committed. God is wanting you to come to Him with complete honest honesty. There is no reason to tippy toe around the truth. Remember this verse is a promise. God never breaks His promise. That is part of His character.
What sin do you need to confess?
How would it feel not to carry that sin around with you?
