I recently had a truly eye-opening experience with a customer that reminded me just how important it is to stay flexible in business. A wonderfully talented watercolor artist came to me hoping to start teaching others how to paint through an online course. We dove right in, meeting every other week, mapping out her strategy, and figuring out how to bring her vision to life. But then she fell ill and felt overwhelmed. She was ready to quit, and of course, I told her I completely understood. But I suggested we have one more chat before making any final decisions, just to see if there was another path.
And that’s when the magic happened.
During that conversation, we stumbled upon something that truly lit her up: her love for painting dogs. She absolutely glowed when we talked about it. In just a half hour, we shifted gears and mapped out a whole new business strategy focused on custom pet portraits instead of the original course idea.
The lesson here? It's perfectly okay to pause, pivot, and find a direction that brings more joy. Sometimes what we think we should do isn’t what truly makes us tick — and that's absolutely fine. In the end, we didn’t quit; we just changed course. And now she’s excited about her new path, and I’m thrilled to have been part of that journey.
👉 If you’re sitting on an idea but not sure if it’s the right one, let’s talk. Sometimes all it takes is one honest conversation to uncover the direction that really lights you up.
