Taking a positive from a negative.
I am not confident about hacking solo as our roads are single lanes and my fear is something going wrong and I fall or Nancy takes off.
This morning I was hacking up to the ménage (about 100-150m) and a van was coming towards us, about
50 yards away.
I put my arm out to indicate I was going into a driveway and we walked calmly in and turned ready for the van to come past. There is a large hedge which obstructed our vision but the driver had seen turn in so he’d come past slowly… wouldn’t he??
No…. I heard him put his foot down and the water lying on the side of the road we could hear slashing 😩
Suddenly he appeared in a shower of water at speed.
Nancy shot forward in front of him heading back to her stable!!!
I talked to her and managed to stop… the van driver had stopped immediately. My initial reaction was to get off but I then decided to put her up on a wide grass verge and turned to face the van.
The driver then, very slowly drove past followed by a 2nd van who was so close to him I hadn’t noticed it.
We then continued to walk up the road to the ménage and have a lovely schooling session before riding back to Nancy’s stable.
I feel very proud of us successfully dealing with one of my biggest fears 😁
