Final Monday of 2025 – Reflection, Not Resolutions
Hey everyone, this is the final Monday of 2025. A new year is upon us.
For some people, this moment feels huge. For others, it’s just another day on the calendar.
One of my mentors, Tim Ferris, has talked openly about why he doesn’t do New Year’s resolutions. We all know how that usually goes: they sound great, they feel motivating for about two weeks, and then real life shows up.
Instead, he does something far more practical. An annual audit. He calls it the Past-Year Review.
Rather than asking, “What do I hope to do next year?” He asks, “What actually worked, what didn’t, and what deserves my attention going forward?”
I’ve adopted a version of this myself.
For me, the real focus has been finishing the year strong, not fantasizing about the next one. December has become less about dreaming and more about closing loops.
This year, I set out to complete two major tasks before the year ended. I’m not perfect, but I got one of them done. Now I’m onto the next. Yep, it's down to the wire!
I have until this Thursday to dig as deep as I can and finish what I started.
Why does this matter?
Because when you close out unfinished work, January feels lighter; you're not starting the year behind, you're starting it with momentum.
Most people use the new year as a reset because they’re burned out or stuck. High performers use it as a continuation, not an escape.
The lesson here isn’t “do more.”It’s finish more.
The Lesson and homework:
Instead of asking:
  • “What are my New Year’s resolutions?”
Try asking:
  • What worked this year that I should double down on?
  • What drained my energy or stalled my progress?
  • What unfinished tasks are quietly stealing focus from my future self?
You don’t need a perfect plan. You need honest reflection and intentional closure.
Your Action Prompt (Do This Today)
Before the year ends, write down:
  1. One win from 2025, you’re proud of
  2. One habit, project, or commitment that didn’t work
  3. One unfinished task you can push forward this week
You don’t have to complete everything. But pushing the needle forward now is a gift to your January self.
Finish strong. Momentum beats motivation every time.
