The Future of The Learning Garden
Over the past few months I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on what The Learning Garden is really about. At first glance, it might look like a community about learning how to create gardens. And some of you may have joined with this impression But the more I work with educators, families, and learners, the more I realise that gardens are only part of the story. What I’m really trying to create here is a vision for us all to see that meaningful learning experiences can start with the environment and that gardens are just vehicles that help people develop practical skills, confidence, creativity, and self-direction through real-world projects. As a result, I’ve started thinking about The Learning Garden as a journey with three stages: 🌱 Discover Explore a different way of learning. This is where we begin. Through Learning Gardens, outdoor classrooms, and environmental projects, we start to see what learning can look like when it’s connected to the real world. 🛠️ Build Create a learning environment that supports it. This is where my free courses and the LEARNING GARDEN: Navigator comes in - Together we design and build learning spaces, projects, and systems that support meaningful, project-based learning for our students and learners. 🚀 Lead Become a self-directed learner through real-world projects. This is the vision behind the LEARNING GARDEN: Academy (not yet launched, but not far off now)… Learners become the centre of the experience, designing, building, and leading projects that create real value for themselves, their families, schools, and communities. In many ways, The Learning Garden is becoming an online green schooling community. A place where educators, families, and learners can discover, build, and lead. I’d love to know: Which stage best describes where you’re currently at? 🌱 Discovering 🛠️ Building 🚀 Leading Leave a comment below and let me know. I’m keen to see how I can help! - Sam

Taking action through AGRICULTURE
Hey all, I’ve been a little quiet in here recently. I’ve been slowing but surely, in the small amounts of time that I have (father of 4 kids under 5), building the future of the LEARNING GARDEN. What’s on the way; COURSE: How to create a Learning Garden for schools - This course is tailored towards school teachers, administrators or members of school parents and community committees who already have and run school gardens or schools who want one and don’t know where to start. This is something I’m really passionate about and speaks to my desire to assist with setting up outdoor green classrooms around the world. I feel this is pertinent work as the global shift in education continues with the advent of Artificial Intelligence. COURSE: Permaculture Action Course - This course is going to be a structured, self paced and flipped learning journey for Individuals who are looking to shift to more sustainable ways of living. It will focus on the 12th principles of Permaculture design and is actually a course that I’ve taught before in person. I’m now translating it to the online space and will have multiple project and learning pathways for people to pursue. COURSE: The LEARNING GARDEN ACADEMY - This is a learner driven, project based, entrepreneurial academy that works w/ students as they focus on specific agricultural projects in their community. These project are intended to become micro-business ventures that make money and offer value to the community at the same time. This one I’m very excited about and will have more to say in the coming weeks. It will be mostly suitable for homeschooling families. Stay tuned for more! Anyway - that’s all I’ve got at the moment in terms of an update. If anyone has any particular questions about any of the above, please feel free to drop the question below and I will answer as best I can. ALSO - fill out the poll if you would like me to reach out and give you any additional info.
