Remember the movie City Slickers?
There’s a scene where Curly, the crusty old cowboy played by Jack Palance, tells Billy Crystal’s character that the secret to life comes down to just one thing.
One thing that matters more than anything else.
Of course, when Billy Crystal asks what that one thing is, Curly basically tells him that’s for him to figure out.
Pretty profound advice from a guy who looks like he eats rattlesnakes for breakfast.
But I’ve always liked that scene.
So here’s something to chew on.
Imagine you had absolutely no limitations.
Money wasn’t an issue. Time wasn’t an issue. You had perfect health. No obligations. No expectations. No fear of failure.
You could do anything, go anywhere, become anyone, or accomplish whatever you wanted.
What would be your ONE thing?
Not your business goals. Not your five-year plan. Not the answer you think you’re supposed to give because some internet guru told you to dream bigger.
I’m talking about the thing that would make you feel like your time on this spinning rock actually meant something.
The thing you’d regret never doing.
Now for the uncomfortable part…
If that’s your one thing, why isn’t more of your life built around it?
We spend an awful lot of time building businesses, chasing money, collecting stuff, and convincing ourselves that someday we’ll finally have the freedom to do what we really want.
But someday is a funny word.
It has a nasty habit of never showing up.
Maybe Curly was onto something.
Maybe success isn’t about having everything.
Maybe it’s about figuring out the one thing that actually matters and having the guts to pursue it.
Or maybe I’ve just had too much coffee and shouldn’t be allowed to think this deeply on a Sunday.
So what’s your ONE thing?
And here’s the real question…
Are you actually pursuing it, or have you just gotten really good at making excuses?
