How It All Began — My Grandma’s Little Kitchen in Wales
When I was a little girl growing up in Wales, my grandmother’s kitchen was the heart of our home. It wasn’t large or fancy — just a small, cozy space filled with the smell of warm bread, the sound of the kettle whistling, and the comfort of her quiet humming as she cooked.
She never used a recipe book. Everything she made came from memory, from instinct, and from love. I’d sit on a chair by her side every day, watching her pinch a bit of this, add a touch of that, and somehow create perfection without ever measuring a thing.
At the time, I didn’t realize I was being handed a gift — not just her food, but her wisdom, her patience, and her way of nurturing through every meal.
Years later, after she passed, I began recreating every dish I could remember — Welsh cakes, Bara Brith, leek soup, cawl — scribbling notes as I went, trying to capture the magic she made look so effortless. I wanted to preserve not just her recipes, but her heart.
That’s why I created Cwtch & Cooking. It’s more than a place for recipes — it’s a place for memories. A community for anyone who wants to reconnect with Welsh heritage through food, family, and story.
Here, you’ll find my grandmother’s traditional recipes, my modern recreations, and a warm group of people who share the same love for cozy kitchens and comforting meals.
So pour yourself a cup of tea, grab a plate of Welsh cakes, and join me at the table. You don’t need to be in Wales to feel at home here.
Croeso i’r teulu — welcome to the family. ❤️— Tricia
