DIY Template: Send-and-Track Log
Use this log to track every piece of correspondence you send. One row per item, per recipient. Keeping records is what makes the DIY process work. Copy this format for each item you dispute or follow up on: Item: [Brief description — e.g., "Collection account, ABC Collections"] Bureau / Recipient: [Equifax / Experian / TransUnion / creditor name] Template used: [A / B / C] Date sent: [MM/DD/YYYY] Method: [Certified mail + return receipt / online dispute portal / fax] Confirmation / tracking number: [If applicable] Response received: [Yes / No] Response date: [MM/DD/YYYY or "none yet"] Outcome: [Corrected / deleted / verified as accurate / no response] Next step: [e.g., "Follow up on (date)" / "Escalate with additional documentation" / "Done — move to next item"] TIPS - Send one item at a time when you're starting out. - Always keep a copy of what you sent and every response you receive. - If you send by mail, certified mail with return receipt requested gives you proof of delivery. - Check current bureau dispute rules and timelines for your situation — general education note: bureaus generally investigate within about 30 days.
