I finally ordered a new mic. The prior mic I had was cheap - about $10 on amazon. When I ordered it 6 months ago, I deliberately didn't want to spend much on it. I promised myself that if I became more serious, studied, posted (though definitely want to be WAY more consistent and prolific), after 6 months, I would upgrade. Also, to be honest, turning 70 last month put a new perspective on not waiting for things that could make my life better (as long as I can afford to do so).
Anyway, I hemmed and hawed, considered a number of options and then finally decided that I needed to stop procrastinating and reading dozens of reviews. Instead I realized that moving on and making a decision was the most prudent thing for me to do in order to improve the sound of my videos. The prior wireless mic had drawbacks. I was willing to put up with them until I wasn't! The considerations I had in purchasing the new one are:
- The new mic has a usb-c ending that works with my new iPhone 16 Pro Max, as opposed to the prior wireless mic that has a lightening ending. I probably could've ordered the same prior mic with a usb-c ending (or a similarly priced one) but as I mentioned, it was time to upgrade.
- With the prior mic , there was no indication to tell how much of a charge was left in the mic. Plus it only had a total of 6 hours when charged which was not acceptable in my book.
- The prior mic didn't come with a case. I retrofitted a case with a plastic food storage container, but am excited to have one with its very own case. The new mic I ordered not only comes with a case, but the case charges it.
If anyone is interested, I'll report back and let you know whether I like the new one.
