Stuart Shils 2 value exercise (relative to our 4-4 CC discussion on thumbnails and value structure)
We worked with black paper, white paper, white tape, scotch tape, and a black and white crayon. We built these notan designs from a life setting, exploring how shifting the overall shapes inside the setting itself impacted the feel of the piece.
It's been years - I'd forgotten about this exercise. I am going to do a number of these from the Sky Bear paintings I've been making as a way to better understand their design and what might be holding me back from a more fluid and interesting approach.
