Worried About Being Exposed?
Today's newsletter is all about the fear of exposure aka imposter syndrome. If you've ever felt that, you're not alone! Here are some things I've done to overcome it when it hits. List your achievements. Put pen to paper and list out what you’ve accomplished. Yes, folding laundry on the same day as you wash it is an accomplishment! So is booking that vacation. So is starting a new sourdough starter. So is choosing to start a side hustle not knowing how it’ll turn out. So is just about anything that feels like a tiny step forward. Write it down. Change your inner soundtrack. You know the voice that tends to creep in between your ears and tell you you’re not good enough, ready enough, smart enough, whatever enough? Kick that voice out and swap it for something a whole lot more positive. As soon as your mind starts going down that familiar path of not being enough, tack on the word “yet” to the statement to position yourself for action and growth along the way. Block out the noise. If it’s not the voice in your head, it’ll be someone else’s voice at some point telling you that you’re not meant to be on that path. There will always be someone who’s eager to tell you you’re not good enough. People love shining a light on other’s faults because they fear the possibility of someone seeing their shortcomings. Block out the noise of other people’s opinions and the toxicity of social media. Instead, lean into an inner circle of people ready to encourage you. What would you add to this list so we can help each other get back to dancing in the spotlight and sharing our ideas with those who want to hear them?
