AI vs Automation (for construction) What's the difference?
Everyone's talking about it at the moment, AI & Automation. They seem to get tagged together, but there's a huge difference between the 2.
I just wanted to give you my view on it
AI = thinks and drafts (writing). Like a smart apprentice.
  • Turns rough notes into an RFI draft.
  • Writes a client update from bullet points.
  • Summarises meeting notes into actions.
Automation = does the clicks on a schedule. A bit like a conveyor belt.
  • Sends the RFI to the right people every time.
  • Files the report and CCs the team at 4pm.
  • Creates tasks and reminds owners on due dates. (and reminds you)
“Artificial intelligence… enables computers and machines to simulate human learning, comprehension, problem solving, decision making, creativity and autonomy.” — IBM.
“Automation is the application of technology… to achieve outcomes with minimal human input.” — IBM.
Together: AI drafts it → Automation sends it.
Quick question:
What’s one task you want AI to draft or Automation to send for you this week?
Comment: “AI – [task]” or “Automation – [task]”.
