🚨 Hyatt is sending out emails again to join a Status Challenge with AA and receive Platinum Pro Status for 4 Months with the option to continue obtaining status if you hit certain miles metrics. I believe this is more directed towards Hyatt Status members, so if you have Explorist or Globalist Status currently, i’d check your email and offers tabs in app, although anyone could be targeted so i’d check either way. This usually means AA status members are also being offered the same to reach Hyatt status so you can check your offers if you already have AA status.
I am currently in this status challenge which i joined late last year and is how i've had AA Platinum Status all year long.
If you have not received an email, The way you get or receive these emails is from having your Hyatt Account also attached to your American Airlines account and vice versa. They have a partnership with one another, and also why i mention you should have an account number with all hotel brands and airlines so you can tap in when they send out status challenges and fast track ways to achieve award nights
🔑 If you want to earn miles within the 4 Months to keep extending status or obtain higher status with American here are the ways you can earn miles
- Flying on Cash Flights with AA
- Cash Stays with Hyatt - accounts attached
- Using AA eshopping portal (easiest way, large mile bonuses for signing up to certain things or purchasing items on certain websites)
- Using an AA cobranded credit card and earning miles thru spend
- Participate in Buyers groups and use an AA card (would be a very good complementary activity if you already do it)
I personally have gotten Platinum just by using the eshopping portal and opting in to different meal plan services, and other large mile redemptions they have on their site. It's also very similar to Rakuten, so if you have some higher expenses with stores with the upcoming holidays late in Q4, use the shopping portal to see if the stores you shop at have way's to get miles.
If you decide to Opt in i believe you have until October 31st to do so, so i’d recommend planning when you opt in with travel plans so you can get the status benefits and miles for the travel. I’d recommend going hard in that first 4 months if you can and are able too with AA eshopping portal and or buyers groups if you are already doing that, as the status you receive in the first 4 months will extend for the next 4. I personally got Platinum essentially thru the eshopping portal.
IMHO, i’ve had status with all 3 Airlines at one point the last few years. Delta, United, & AA. AA has easily been my favorite in terms of upgrades and achieving status, i’d say i’ve gotten upgraded about 60% of the time with AA, United comes in 2nd, and Delta has been the worst in terms of status and upgrades. What it really comes down to is routing, & your home airport.
You can check out the article attached, for more info on the Status challenge and the terms.
