I've done 8 auctions now, with a mixture of big names, smaller names, big results and terrible ones here's what I have learnt...
1 - We are the chooser!
I made the error a couple of times here by thinking 'Yeh, but Ryan they have a HUGE list...' Even though I knew they were a nightmare to deal with, they kept wanting the copy changed they focused on the hammer... but I told myself even though all that I would make enough money to make it worth it...
Guess what? I didn't. So now if I wanna work with you then you are getting tested at every point and I can pull the plug at any point. I wont mention names but 2 of the people I worked with would have easily hit 6 figs had they not got too involved. One even agreed after...
2 - Get everything you need before the auction.
Wowza didn't think this would be an issue but getting payment links etc... get everything you need before so you aren't faffing around trying to get links to close people.
3 - You really don't need to be that good. Good offer KILLS everything.
I worked with a dude, small audience, but a killer offer, in a niche where people have money, he got everything to me, was easy to deal with and we CRUSHED it, like $20K in 24 hours EASILY. It didn't even feel like work.
I am not that great a tapper. I make mistakes but with an auction most people are wanting in ASAP. You give them the 3 tiers and they are busting a gut to get in...
4 - Do as many test posts as you can...
It's really easy to get a test post out there and even easier for them to see if they will get an engagement. It ticks the box for the person that they will get people bidding... but for you it tests them, you send a google doc and they don't bother clicking it... good you are out. If they won't do that they will 100% mess around with sending emails to their list etc... and thats before you ask for money...
I had one person say 'I cannot be doing with the 2 mins voice note you sent me.' Ok well if you cannot listen to 2 mins of me explaining the posts, the emails etc... then bye bye bye.
5 - Actually learn from each auction.
After every auction, I spend some time actually writing out what I liked, what I didnt, what worked, what didn't... so every time I am getting better and it helps me find who I want to work with. I spot things now early and stop talking to that person. I am also not afraid to tell them bye!
6 - You can earn your yearly goal fast.
Auctions are a ton of fun and with the right person you can hit your goals for your income FAST. You don't need many, then everything else can go towards whatever you want... buying communities, investing in ads for the next auction...
7 - When you have a good partner, do more...
I had a partner CRUSH an auction, they paid me 35%... we made $20K in 24 hours. He LOVED it, he booked a family trip with his share of the money... I led with that? How would you like to take a family trip every 3 months? He wanted that, like really wanted that.
I said well how about you give me $50 for every $100 I send you but I will cover the ads as well... hes got a decent audience in a great niche with a killer offer, he just isn't as well known as his competitors...
Well I can get you a bucket load more leads....
I can run polls, email about them polls, get my ad money back every month and then every 3 months run a bigger auction. Winner Winner.
8 - Look at peoples skool profiles.
I ran an auction, went well. But the guy doesn't wanna grow he wants to pull in a few extra K every so often alongside his main business. That's cool... so what I did was go through all the profiles of the people who bid... I found they were also members of a few other skools...
I reached out to the owner of those skools and am now chatting to some skool owners in a niche which I know works, I have an auction which works but they have WAY more distribution... in one case I was in a 1K skool group, I found a 14K active group in the same niche.
