Which needle count?

I've been wanting to buy a circular machine, even for my birthday/Christmas last month.

Aside from wanting to have a project in mind since I haven't knitted in years, I'm wondering which needle count is best if it's the only one you'll have for a while?

Just joined today, taught myself to knit many years ago with YouTube then found a local knitting group. Kinda stopped knitting soon after the group moved when the shop we met in had to close.
