January is almost done and I wanted to share some of the carnivals that took place this month Caribbean Carnivals January 2026 Bahamas – Junkanoo (National Cultural Festival) Location: Nassau, New Providence Dates: December 26, 2025 & January 1, 2026 Details & what makes it special: Junkanoo is an all-night street explosion of hand-crafted paper costumes, pounding goat-skin drums, cowbells, and brass, deeply rooted in Afro-Bahamian history. St. Kitts and Nevis – Sugar Mas (National Carnival) Location: Basseterre, St. Kitts Dates: December 12, 2025 – January 2, 2026 Details & what makes it special: Sugar Mas uniquely blends Christmas traditions with Carnival, combining calypso and Soca competitions, pageantry, J’ouvert on New Year’s Day, and a colorful Grand Parade. Montserrat – Montserrat Festival Location: Montserrat (Caribbean) Dates: December 20, 2025 – January 1, 2026 Details & what makes it special: This intimate festival features parades, calypso shows, and cultural performances, building toward a New Year’s Day Parade. What sets it apart is its small island feel, where visitors experience Carnival up close and personal, side by side with locals. St. Croix (U.S. Virgin Islands) – Crucian Christmas Festival Location: Frederiksted, St. Croix Dates: December 26, 2025 – January 3, 2026 Details & what makes it special: The Crucian Christmas Festival stretches across the holidays with parades, music competitions, food fairs, and cultural events. It stands out as one of the Caribbean’s longest Christmas carnivals, transforming the entire festive period into a lively celebration of Crucian identity.
