Coming Up Next Friday: Business Course!
This week I’ve been deep in CABC reaccreditation work, and one of the things I had to build was a prolonged labor protocol.
Sounds simple… but it really isn’t.
Most of the definitions we use come from ACOG hospital guidelines, yet midwives practice in a completely different environment. We support physiologic birth, we don’t have epidurals, and our transfer decisions have to account for distance, transport time, and resources individually for each family we serve.
The good news is that we finally have real outcome data from the AABC Perinatal Data Registry (PDR) to help inform these decisions...the bad news is they didn't actually give us a recommendation, but are expecting us to have a protocol for it anyway.
So next Friday I’m using my Prolonged Labor Protocol development to walk you through:
• How to find the evidence for protocol writing
• How to interpret ACOG guidance vs midwifery practice
• How to turn research into a clear, defensible policy
• And yes… how I used ChatGPT to help organize the evidence and draft the protocol.... and I will teach you to save time using it too!
This will be a behind-the-scenes look at how policies actually get written, not just the final product. But, you can walk away with your policy if you tune in!
If you’re a student, new midwife, or anyone who wants to understand how evidence becomes clinical policy, this one will be really helpful. I hope you can join us next Friday!
