In the book, The Secret History, Robin Artisson introduces us to the idea of an occurrence, or wave of Fateful influence which has caused the breathing world great suffering. He called this "The Red Tide" or the "Ravishing Hunger". If we look at existence from the point of view of a giant web or a ocean, it is easy to imagine in our mind's eye, how outside, distant currents can influence everything within this Web of Existence.
Have you ever sat at the edge of a lake that is seemingly very still. Gazed within its surface and then gently tossed a pebble into it? Have you sat and observed the ripples? Or watched rain fall into a pond? It is not too dissimilar in concept. Robin Artisson states:
"In the vast body of Fate, the darker, deeper texture of reality, you might say there are ripples- Like waves on the ocean's surface. These "ripples” or tides, they extend from an infinitely deeper level of the cosmos-structure than I have been talking about in this work before now. It's fair to say that the Indwellers themselves might seem "small" compared to these great waves or ripples or tides."
Just as we can create ripples in a still pond and see the origination point, there are many other sources of said ripples that are beyond our ability to directly observe or come into being with out knowing whence they spring. Every entity of beingness can be called a ripple or a tide. Every birth and death creates these ripples. The seeming choices that one or two seemingly important entities choose can leave even greater ripples.
But, there are even other, greater, far-reaching ripples that come from deeper levels. Just as some ripples create monthly or seasonal tides, or certain births and deaths create especially important days of remembrance, longer lasting waves some time develop. Some entities, being highly adaptable have ways of maneuvering and shape-shifting through these changes wrought, such as the World Indweller Himself, that Great Serpent. But other entities, such as mankind itself, can easily fail in these capacities, and some ripples can end species.
"A deeper Fateful tide moved in and brought its presence to bear on our world. How localized this tide was, or if it was something greater, I have no way of knowing nor do I need to know. I'd consider its power to be pretty terrible, speaking as a human being at my present level of wisdom and awareness. I call it the Red Tide or the Ravenous Tide because it seems to have infected mankind with a sort of terrible hunger, a subtle mix of anxiety and ravenous hunger for things they had never before focused upon with the same ardor or intensity."
Historically, we begin to see this Red Tide effect humanity after the emergence of a special piece of knowledge, a gift of the Unseen, or maybe a stolen technology we call AGRICULTURE, allowed mankind to develop one of the benchmarks for building a civilization. And today is no different from the past.
We have entered an era in which mankind is nearly devoid of any of the wisdom its ancestors once had when it comes to living in this world. The reasons for this is varied, but at its heart is that we have become SOULLESS. This does not mean mankind is evil, but that our civilization is formed and perpetuated to cause Soul Loss on a mass scale. We are all wounded by the conditions that keep our civilization going. And ot seems that there is little we can do about this.
The conditions cause us harm. Which in turn harms all of existence. We spoil the soil, the waters and the very air we breathe, and most of us, dont even think about this. And those that do, do their small part to minimize the damage, but there is little we can do. Our economies are manufactured to do this, even relegating us, the common worker as tools to be exploited. So, yes, we are ALL DAMAGED to degrees greater than our predecessors.
While there may be little that can can do to ease these destructive behaviors en masse there are things we can do to do our small part. We can learn to waste nothing. Learn to maintain and repair any and all technological devices and appliances instead of just tossing it out and buying another (perpetuating the use and toss consumerism which feeds the system). We can simplify our lives by doing things like our ancestors. While this may cause more work to do, such as hand washing dishes or clothes, or not keeping up with the Joneses when it comes to new gizmos and gadgets, this simplicity will bring more joy in your life, trust me.
But there are other things we can do, including such exercises as Soul Retrieval, healing small parts of us that have been damaged. Each soul loss can be likened to the diminishment of a percentage of battery life. Each increment is a soul. And while we will never be at 100% (our species hasn't been there since the Paleolithic), we can begin the process of "Man, Heal Thyself". This is a practice that I do provide as part of my repertoire.
The thing is, yes, we live in a world gone mad, but, we dont have to sit back and watch our species crumble under the weight of its own unwisdom. We can, one by one, take proactive steps to stem the tide and heal what we can. Starting with ourselves, and those around us.
Eventually, the Red Tide will petter out, and a new wave will sweep in. But the question will be, what will be left? Will humanity still exist or will we go extinct? Spirits will still be. The Earth will still be. Existence will still be. Will you be a helpmeet for embodying souls?
