Last week we talked about Focus — and how hard it is to maintain in a world built to distract you.
This week, we go deeper.
Simplicity.
Here’s what I’ve learned after decades of coaching:
Getting healthy and fit isn’t complicated. We make it complicated.
The health and fitness industry wants you overwhelmed. Overwhelmed people buy more products, try more programs, and keep searching for the next thing. Simple people get results and stop needing to search.
So this week I want to introduce you — or re-introduce you — to a framework I’ve built my entire coaching philosophy around.
The 7 Daily Primal Needs.
-----
There is a hierarchy of needs your body requires every single day. And most of us are focused on the wrong ones.
Here they are — in order of importance:
1. BREATHE
We can only live approximately 5 minutes without oxygen. Breathing is the #1 primal need — and the most underrated health tool you have. Control your breath and you can control your life. Slow your breathing and you slow everything down.
2.HYDRATE
We can only live approximately 7 days without water. But here’s what most people miss — minerals are just as important as water for true hydration. Drink consistently throughout the day, listen to your body, and prioritize mineral-rich hydration. A glass of quality water with trace minerals first thing in the morning is one of the simplest upgrades you can make.
3.SLEEP
We fail in less than 21 days without sleep. This is probably your most difficult assignment — and your most important one. 7+ hours of quality sleep reduces body fat, improves hormones, sharpens focus, and makes everything else easier. Wind down by 9pm. Off screens by 10pm. Your body does its best work while you rest.
4.EAT
Commit to a nutrition model and give it at least 4 weeks. Focus on food quality, digestion and balancing macros — good fats, proteins, and high fiber vegetables. Plan and prepare. Slow down and chew. Keep it simple.
5.LOVE / CONNECT / CONTRIBUTE
We are social creatures. Connection is not a luxury — it’s a primal need. Hug more. Listen more. Serve others. Be part of a community that lifts you up.
6.GROW
A growth mindset is everything. Get clear on your WHY. Get a coach. Protect your mornings. Spend at least 30 minutes daily on your mindset.
7.MOVE
The body is built to move — and sitting is the enemy.
We all need to stand more than we sit, and move more than we stand. Daily movement is life-changing. Not just for your body — but for your mind. Movement is one of the fastest ways to shift your emotional state. Change your state, change your life.
Accumulate at least 30 minutes of movement every day. Walk. Stretch. Stand. Do burpees. It doesn’t have to be a gym session — it just has to happen.
-----
Here’s the hard truth:
Most people are starting at #7 and wondering why they’re not getting results.
They’re grinding in the gym — but sleeping 5 hours, skipping water, eating on the run, and running on fumes.
The workout is the easy part. But movement every day — in every form — is non-negotiable.
If you can improve the first 4 primal needs — breathing, hydration, sleep, and nutrition — your workouts, your relationships, and your life will become dramatically easier.
I’ll be honest with you: I created this framework. I teach it every day. And I still struggle with #1 and #3 myself.
That’s why SIMPLICITY is this week’s word. Not because it’s easy. But because when we strip away the noise and return to what actually matters — the path gets clearer.
-----
Your SIMPLICITY challenge this week:
Pick ONE of the first four primal needs and commit to improving it for 7 days.
Just one. Not all seven. One.
That’s the KISS rule — Keep It Simple. Focus on what matters most, execute consistently, and watch how much changes from one small shift.
-----
Good → Better → Best
Good: Add minerals to your water and drink consistently throughout the day — starting first thing in the morning.
Better: Pick your weakest primal need from the top 4 and build one daily habit around it.
