Word of the Week: INVEST
I’m sitting outside right now.
Looking at our backyard. And for the first time in what feels like weeks — I'm just sitting. Breathing. Taking it all in.
It's been a grind.
For the past four weeks, whenever we've had a chance — weekends, after work, first thing in the morning before the day got away from us — we've been out here.
Landscaping, planting, laying rock, pulling weeds, building spaces for people to gather. No big uninterrupted stretches of time. Just stolen moments of progress, stacked on top of each other. My whole family has been in it — all of us contributing, all of us working toward something we couldn't quite see yet but knew would be worth it.
Today, I can see it. And it's everything we hoped it would be.
Not because the work is done — it's not. There's always more to do. But today is one of those days where you stop, look around, and feel the reward of everything you've put in.
That feeling? That's what investment looks like when it pays off.
And it got me thinking about you.
---
Here's the parallel I want you to sit with this week:
Everything I did in that backyard — the drought-resistant plants, the rocks, the weed control, the simplified landscaping — I didn't do it just for today. I did it so that future summers are easier. Less labor. More living. More coffee. More wine with friends. More time at the pool.
I invested now so I could enjoy later.
Your health works exactly the same way.
Every clean meal is an investment. Every good night of sleep is an investment. Every workout you show up for — even the short ones — is an investment. Every glass of mineral water. Every deep breath. Every time you choose your long-term wellbeing over short-term convenience.
And here's the part most people miss: you don't need big blocks of perfect time. You just need to keep showing up. Weekends. After work. First thing in the morning before the day gets away from you. Stolen moments of progress, stacked on top of each other. That's how the backyard got done. That's how your health gets built too.
You may not feel the return today. But future you will.
The person who feels strong and energized at 60, 65, 70 — they didn't get there by accident. They got there because they made small investments, consistently, over many years.
---
Here's what most people get wrong about investing in their health:
They wait for a dramatic moment to start. A diagnosis. A number on the scale. A photo they didn't like. A wake-up call.
But the best investments are made quietly, before the crisis. While things are still good enough to ignore.
The backyard doesn't look like much when you're laying the rock and pulling the weeds. But one day you sit down with a cup of coffee and realize — all of that work created something beautiful.
Your health is the same. The work you do today — even when it's invisible — is creating something remarkable.
---
I'm also looking forward to something that took real investment to create:
Evenings outside with friends. Gatherings at the pool. Slow mornings with coffee in the front yard. Games in the backyard on warm summer nights.
None of that happens without the investment that came before it.
The same is true for your life. The energy to show up for the people you love. The strength to do the things you enjoy. The confidence to feel good in your own skin all summer long.
That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because you invested.
---
Your INVEST challenge this week:
Think of one area of your health you've been putting off — something you know matters but haven't quite committed to yet.
Now ask yourself: what would it cost me to invest in this now? And what will it cost me if I don't?
Write it down. Then take one small step toward it today.

Good → Better → Best
Good: Make one intentional food choice today — one meal that future you will thank you for.
Better: Identify the one health investment with the highest return for your body right now — sleep, nutrition, movement, stress — and build one new habit around it this week.
Best: Book a free consultation with me. Let's talk about what investing in your health actually looks like for your life, your body, and your goals right now.

The backyard isn't finished. It never fully will be. But today — sitting here in the space we created — I can honestly say it was worth every bit of effort.
Your health is worth every bit of effort too.
What are you investing in this summer? Drop it in the comments — I'd love to hear it.
