Word of the Week: ACTION
Here we are. Another Sunday. Another new week ahead.
And this week I have a lot on my mind — so bear with me. Because I think what I'm about to share might be exactly what someone in this community needs to hear.
---
First — the fun stuff.
Maya's graduation party is this Saturday. And if you want to know what creates action faster than anything else — it's a deadline.
We have been working on our backyard for weeks. Whenever we could. Weekends, after work, first thing in the morning. Stolen moments of progress stacked on top of each other.
But this week? Everything shifted into a higher gear. Because Saturday is coming whether we're ready or not.
There's nothing like an event on the calendar to turn "I'll get to it eventually" into "let's go — right now."
We're not trying to make it perfect. We're just trying to make it better. And having a deadline is making that happen.
Sound familiar?
---
Now — the more personal story. And I'm sharing this because I think it matters.
Last Friday I had a colonoscopy.
I had been putting it off for years.
My mother encouraged me to get it done. My adopted grandmothers urged me. And honestly — I knew I needed it. I've had gut issues my entire life. And somewhere in the back of my mind I've always had this quiet fear that if something serious was going to get me — it would probably be colon cancer.
You would think that fear would have sent me running to the doctor.
Instead, it kept me away.
I didn't want to hear bad news. So I just... didn't go. I procrastinated. I rationalized. I put it off year after year.
Until I finally took action.
And I am so relieved to tell you — all clear. No polyps. No problems. I walked out of that procedure with a sigh of relief so big I didn't even realize how much weight I had been carrying until it was gone.
---
Here's what I want you to take from this:
The thing you're most afraid to find out about is often the most important thing to know.
Avoiding a health screening doesn't make the problem go away. It just means you find out later — when there's less time to act.
Action — even when it's scary — is almost always better than waiting.
---
I also want to share something that made my experience much easier than most people expect:
A history of fasting, colonics, and coffe enemas had already prepared my gut.
Understanding how to hydrate properly and optimize blood glucose while fasting made the prep far more manageable.
Training my pelvic floor — something I've been focused on since back injuries at eighteen — made the procedure itself smoother than I anticipated.
In fact — by Friday afternoon I was back working in the backyard. In a hundred degree heat. Post-colonoscopy. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that. But I honestly felt fine.
The one hard part? A week of no fiber beforehand. I missed my vegetables. I missed my salads. And removing fiber disrupted my glucose levels more than anything else. That was the real challenge — not the procedure itself.
---
The point of all this is simple:
There are things on your list right now that you've been putting off. A health screening. A doctor's appointment. A conversation you've been avoiding. A habit you know you need to start.
What is it going to take for you to take action?
For me it took years of gentle pressure from the people who love me — and finally deciding that the fear of knowing was worse than not knowing.
Don't wait as long as I did.
---
Your ACTION challenge this week:
Write down the one health thing you've been putting off the longest.
Not a goal. Not a habit. The specific thing you've been avoiding.
Then make one move toward it this week. Book the appointment. Send the email. Make the call.
Just one action. That's all it takes to break the cycle of procrastination.
---
Good → Better → Best
Good: Write down the one health thing you've been avoiding and tell someone about it — accountability starts with saying it out loud.
Better: Book the appointment this week. Not next month. This week.
Best: Reply to this post or send me a message. I'll help you figure out how to prepare, what to expect, and how to make it as easy as possible — whether it's a colonoscopy, a blood panel, a fitness assessment, or anything else.

Maya's party is Saturday. The backyard is almost ready. The colonoscopy is done.
Turns out deadlines and decisions have a lot in common — they both force you to stop waiting and start moving.
What have you been putting off? Drop it in the comments. No judgment here — just a community that will cheer you on.
