Black History Month
Working on some concepts and lessons for Black History month! Who are some figures or tough questions/concepts you want your student/child to learn about? So far I have two early elementary lessons for Ruby Bridges and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. I'll love to add more. Also I'll love some students to teach to during the class. Please let me know if interested!
๐ŸŽ‰ Welcome to Black Families Homeschooling!
Hey yโ€™all ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿพ Iโ€™m so excited to see our community growing here on Skool! This space was created to support, empower, and connect Black homeschooling families โ€” from preschool to high school. Hereโ€™s what you can do to get started: 1. ๐Ÿก Introduce yourself! Share your childโ€™s grade level and where youโ€™re homeschooling from. 2. ๐Ÿ“š Explore the topics โ€” youโ€™ll find resources, lesson ideas, and community discussions. 3. ๐Ÿ’ฌ Engage & ask questions โ€” no question is too small. Weโ€™re all learning together. โœจ Our mission: to make homeschooling accessible, culturally relevant, and full of joy for every Black family. Drop a comment below and say hi โ€” letโ€™s build this village together! ๐Ÿ–ค
Question?
How long have you all been Homeschooling? I have been homeschooling 25 years.
From homeschooled kid to Dr. of Education: Help me build what our village actually needs! ๐Ÿ“šโœŠ๐Ÿพ
Hi Everyone, Iโ€™m coming to you both as a fellow "homegrown" student and a professional educator. Iโ€™ve spent 7 years in the classroom and close to finishing my Doctorate in Educational Leadership, but my heart has always stayed with the homeschooling community. Iโ€™m passionate about creating high-level, culturally responsive resources that actually reflect our children's lives. Iโ€™m currently developing a few projects, like a Sociology/ELA course exploring Fatherhood through the lens of J. Cole, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar, along with Pre-Algebra and Essay Writing intensives. However, I don't want to create in a vacuum. I want to build exactly what your family is looking for. If you have a moment, Iโ€™d love your real talk feedback: - The Gap: What is the one subject or skill that feels like a struggle to teach at home right now? - The Format: Do you prefer Live Classes (social/interactive), Asynchronous/Self-Paced (flexible), or Parent Workshops (equipping you to lead)? - The Support: Are you looking for a "tutor" to help with daily homework, or a "specialist" to teach a specific, deep-dive course? - I want to make sure the resources I build are useful, culturally grounded, and take the pressure off you as parents. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
