MY MOUTH IS A PORTAL A Spoken Word by Unique Lady G I heard something today that stopped me: “Your mouth is a portal.” And immediately, something within me began to connect. The Word says we can be snared by the words of our mouth. It says, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.” And it tells us to guard our heart, because out of it flow the issues of life. So I had to ask myself: What is in my heart? Is faith in my heart? Is love in my heart? Is hope in my heart? Is peace in my heart? Is value in my heart? Is possibility in my heart? Because whatever I continually allow into my consciousness eventually finds somewhere to live. And what lives within me will eventually find its way through my mouth. Think about it. We pay attention to what we put into our bodies because we understand that what we eat doesn’t just disappear. It enters us. We digest it. Our bodies process it. And if we continually feed ourselves things that harm us, eventually the effects begin showing up somewhere. So why would we think our minds and hearts are any different? What am I feeding myself through what I watch? What am I feeding myself through what I listen to? What am I feeding myself through the conversations I entertain? What am I feeding myself through the thoughts I repeatedly rehearse? Because eventually, what goes in begins to come out. It comes out in my words. It comes out in my expectations. It comes out in my decisions. It comes out in how I see myself. And eventually, it begins showing up in how I live my life. That’s why I am becoming more intentional about my words. I don’t want to continually speak yesterday over tomorrow. I don’t want to keep speaking fear over possibilities I haven’t even experienced yet. I don’t want disappointment to become the prophecy of my future. I don’t want what happened to me to become the language through which I define what can happen for me. So today, I choose differently. I choose to guard my heart. I choose to become conscious of what I allow to enter my mind.
