The twelve disciples were ordinary men—fishermen, a tax collector, a zealot—called by an extraordinary Savior. Jesus didn’t choose the most learned or the most pious; He chose those willing to follow, to learn, and to be transformed.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide…”
— John 15:16 (ESV)
This reminds us that Jesus’ call is not based on merit, but on His purpose. He called them not only to be with Him but also to be sent out—to preach, to heal, and to bear witness.
A Lesson from the Disciples: Obedience Over Understanding
When Jesus called Simon Peter and Andrew, they didn’t ask for the full itinerary. They responded immediately.“Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.” — Matthew 4:22 (ESV)
Faith often begins with obedience before understanding.
