I've been preaching for 12 years. Churches of 100, 250, 500, 1,000, and 1,500. Rural and suburban. And here's what I've learned: it's hard to get someone to tell you the truth about your preaching. Your elders say "great message." Your spouse says "it was good." Maybe someone in the lobby grabs your hand and says "that really spoke to me" but you still go home wondering if the other 99% of the room checked out after your intro. I've had a group of pastors I meet with for years that has developed trust, relationship, and the sole purpose of our weekly gathering is to give each other feedback and help us grow. It's the same thing I want to help cultivate for you...wherever you're a pastor, wherever you preach, however often you do...I just want to invest in you to become all that God made you to be! That's what Better On Sunday is. This isn't a preaching course. God wired you with a voice that's yours...your personality, your gifting, your way of connecting with people. My job isn't to make you preach like me. I want to help you figure out what YOUR best preaching looks like and then help you do it more consistently. Here's what I'll try to do in this community: Prep — I'll share a bit about my process for preparation, format, study, series design, topic, etc. and offer some ways that you might be able to adapt it to fit your own style. Delivery — I'll talk about reading the room, opening strong, knowing when you've lost people, adjusting in the moment, and closing with weight and application instead of multiple landings that just don't hit. Spiritual — I want to unpack how to discern what God is actually saying...to you first, and then to your audience. I've found that preaching has far more to do with BEING with God rather than DOING for God. How you prepare your heart for Sunday is the most important part of the process. Collaboration — I want to share clips, give each other feedback, celebrate wins, laugh at our own shortcomings, and work together to help us all grow! If this community works the way I hope it does, we'll all walk away with ideas, insights, prayers, learnings, and investments in each other...and I'm most excited for it!
