Learning disabilities are not the end of the story. From a neurodevelopment perspective, learning disabilities are signs that the brain is working harder than it should in one or more key processing systems.
The brain may be having difficulty with:
- Auditory processing (making sense of sound)
- Visual processing (interpreting symbols and spatial information)
- Working memory (holding information long enough to use it)
- Sensory integration (organizing input from the body and environment)
When these systems are inefficient, learning becomes exhausting.
An individual may be highly intelligent, creative, and insightful…
…but still struggle to:
- read fluently
- follow directions
- retain information
- complete work independently
This is not a lack of effort.
It is often a sign that the brain needs development.
