I've been thinking a lot lately about why symbols matter.
Across cultures and traditions, people have long attached meaning to colors, candles, herbs, stones, seasons, animals, and countless other symbols. Some view these symbols as spiritual tools. Others see them as reminders, anchors for reflection, or ways of expressing intention. Many people probably experience them as some combination of all of the above.
For me, symbolism often serves as a way to focus attention and invite deeper reflection. A candle can become a reminder of hope. Salt can symbolize protection or preservation. A seasonal celebration can help mark the passage of time and reconnect us to the natural world.
Regardless of how we understand the symbols we use, they seem to have a remarkable ability to help us engage more intentionally with our lives.
I'm curious:
โจ What symbols appear most often in your practice?โจ Why are they meaningful to you?โจ Has your understanding of symbolism changed over time?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
