Primitive Movement Patterns
Primitive movement patterns are the foundational building blocks of human mobility, based on how we naturally develop as infants and how our ancestors interacted with their environment. These are often integrated with animal-inspired movements—quadrupedal (four-limbed) exercises like crawling and leaping—to improve functional strength, mobility, and coordination.
Many of these patterns align with what experts call Ancestral Movement. These are the shapes our bodies evolved to make over millions of years—squatting, crawling, and climbing—which modern desk-bound life often "erases." Relearning these isn't just a workout; it's a way to "re-map" your nervous system for better movement health. Which is why these movement patterns are the foundation of any great strength training program.
