About a month ago we sat with this exact thing in my community. The GPT situation.

Well. It's in writing now.

But I tested it this morning on my Plus account and I still built one. Shareable link and everything.

So the door's not closed. It's closing.

Let me break it down.

🗞️ 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 🗞️

𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗔𝗜 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗣𝗧 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Their help pages now say it in bold: "New GPT creation and publishing are not available on personal ChatGPT accounts, including Free, Go, Plus, and Pro."

That's Free, Go, Plus, and Pro. Publishing to the GPT Store goes with it. Creating, editing, and publishing move over to Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces.

And no announcement came with it. No blog post, no release note, no email. They updated a few help pages and kept it moving.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁: I went and tested it before writing this, and it worked. Built a fresh GPT on Plus, got the shareable link, no problem. So the policy is written but it hasn't landed on every account yet. Could be today, could be next month. I can't tell you the timing and it doesn't look like they're planning to either. And the GPTs you already have keep working. No shutdown date has been named for those.

Why it matters to you: think about setting your chair up in somebody else's barbershop. You bring your own clippers, you build your own book, the work is yours. Then one day the shop decides who gets a chair. Your clippers are still yours. The chair never was. So while the door is still open, go build the ones you actually need. Then pull the instructions out of the GPT and keep a copy somewhere you own. A doc. A note. A file on your machine. The instructions are the real asset. The container was always borrowed.

That's what my morning looks like ~ knocking out the last few I want while I can. I stopped building GPTs to sell a while back because this looked like where it was headed. Mine are just for sharing in my Skool community. And I'm not upgrading a personal plan to a workspace plan to keep a feature. If the tool is moving, I'd rather put that energy into things I get to keep.
