“Are you a parrot? You sound like a $100m parrot mate”
On a tv show, one apprentice kept repeating everything the tycoon said, almost word-for-word. It wasn’t conversation. It was mimicry, a game. They thought that if they parroted the tycoon, they’d stay in favour by saying exactly what he wanted to hear. It didn’t work. It’s left the tycoon, fuming to say the least. He got caught, and the strategy instantly lost its power. Now, watching that, you might think: “Well, parroting never works in the real world.” But you’d be wrong. Because there’s a psychological trick called mirroring, which is basically “being a parrot,” but smarter. If they cross their legs, you cross yours. If they sneeze, you sneeze. If they cough, you cough. Subtle, subconscious imitation. It can look silly if done obviously… but under the radar, it’s surprisingly effective. Manipulative? Maybe. Effective? Definitely. Here’s another example. I recently stumbled across a YouTuber with over a million subscribers. At first, I thought his style was unique, refreshing, even. But after a few videos, I noticed a pattern. He was parroting. But with a twist. And his audience loved it. If he’d written off the “parrot” technique entirely, he might never have built such a huge following. His subtle mirroring makes people feel heard, valued, and understood. The lesson? Just because a tactic flops in one industry doesn’t mean it won’t explode in another. Something that gets you laughed at in one room could make you a millionaire in a different one. Test. Test. Test. Someone out there is waiting for your parroting. Tweak it. Make it your own. Find the niche where “being a parrot” is the best thing since sliced bread. Now… in closing… allow me to sound like a parrot:Test. Test. Test.
