Nick Matthew's 3 Non-Negotiables for Winning the Length Battle
Nick Matthew breaks down something every competitive player needs to hear. Most of us chase the Hollywood shots — the nicks, the drops, the low winners. But Nick's point is simple: all of that is built on winning the length battle first. This is something he taught when he came to Edmonton and put on a camp. He covers 3 non-negotiables for straight work — follow-through, spacing, and matching height and power to drive the ball deep — and honestly, it's a great reminder of how much free pace and opportunity we give away when these break down. Worth a watch. Drop a comment below — which of the three shows up most in your game?

Great reminder. I find some difficulty with matching the height on the front wall and power in my game.
How much mental training do you actually do for squash?
Not just “trying to stay positive”… but actual mental work like: • visualizing matches • breathing/reset routines • self-talk strategies • between-point routines Have you ever done this on purpose? If yes — what helped the most? If no — what do you struggle with mentally in matches? 👇 Drop your experience below

mostly self-talk strategies - just a few points.....no visualizations, no breathing routine, no in between-point route. "Nothing matters outside the court...when you're playing" "Extend the rally as much as possible" "Play YOUR game...not your opponent's or the opponent" "DONT PLAY REVERSE BOAST during the first game".....but I mostly fail to follow this one :D
What’s your go to pre-squash snack?
Curious what your go-to pre-squash snack? I’ll go first: 🍌

Question of the week - Ghosting
Is ghosting overrated or underrated — and why?
1 like • Jan 22
Underrated - a lot of us who don't or can't squeeze in a day to do ghosting are missing out on very basic fundamental movements in the court that can make a lot of difference in maintaining 'T' position...specially in long rallies. Also, light ghosting can serve as a good warmup before the game...nothing too intense just shuffling from end to end can loosen up the muscles imho

@Michael Fouts i agree!
Favorite Player To Watch
Who's your favorite player to watch, currently or all-time, and why? I'll go first: Karim Abdel Gawad. I really appreciate how smooth and effortless he makes the game look, his movement and his racquet skills make squash look easy - when it's not. I've had the pleasure of watching him play live too, and it was really great to watch.

Got quite a few on my list here. Jansher Khan - Old matches - mostly the British Open Final highlights Peter Nicol - Favorite one was the 1997 final against Jansher Khan in British Open Amr Shabana Ramy Ashour Jonathan Power John White vs Ramy Ashour in Kuwait Open is fun to watch Brett Martin - was fairly ranked player but was a king when it came to deception imho. amongst the new lot - Ali Farag has been my most favorite, sadly he's retired too!
