We actually had ice in Tampa Bay this morning! Without fail, I always make the noob mistake of trying to clear the windshield with my wipers and fluid while I’m driving.
FEMA App
Today’s emergency management tip is download the FEMA APP as a tool for disaster and emergency management, too easy. #emergencymanagement #disasterprep #firstresponse #emergencytips #safety

I like it. Simple action step. I recently tried saving a different zip code with it while I was out of town. Seemed to work well for getting notifications for local hazards when a wind storm came through. Changed it back to my zip code when I got home.
Community Resiliency: The End Goal
No man (woman) is an island. I’m sure you’ve heard that before. I’m REALLY happy to have found and joined this Skool community. You know why? Because community is what will save us one day when we’re facing an emergency. I imagine most people are looking for a way to prep their own house. Me too. I don’t want to depend on others. That’s not a bad trait to have. I’ve got food and supplies for me and my family. To me, that shows agency. Strength. However, even the best of us miss something. Inevitably. The one thing I forgot to include in my kit. The one thing I needed to fortify my house before the oncoming storm. That’s going to be the thing that jeopardizes my family’s safety. In that moment, the only thing that MIGHT save me and my family from harm… My neighbor. And I pray to God that it is a Good Neighbor! One of my goals this year, besides being more engaged in Skool, is to find community locally. Time banks. CERT groups. Jiu jitsu clubs. Community gardens. Take your pick. Especially when it comes time to recover after a disaster. If all the prep I did fails, I hope my neighbor was prepping too. And the other neighbor. And their neighbor. I’m really happy to be in this community. We need MORE emergency managers. We need MORE preppers. We need MORE homeowners with a sense of agency. We need MORE good neighbors. What are you all doing to build a sense of community in your local social circles?

@Chanel Jones great points. It seems rallying the community around preparedness is a huge public health social marketing opportunity.

Nice. Practical suggestions, and they follow the emergency supply kit guidelines at ready.gov. It’s amazing to me how many prepper/survivalist enthusiasts don’t even have this, or don’t even have a 72-hour kit.
Welcome to EM_Tips! Emergency Management Tips and preparedness before the Next emergency.
Hi, welcome to my community! Feel free to post your concerns around emergency planning, is it something you've considered? What keeps you awake at night about an emergency event or disaster? I am interested in your thoughts!

@Chanel Jones I worked in facilities and construction early on in my career, and then academia and then public health later. Most recently I started working with home service contractors on the admin side. Yes! Commodities. I have some silver. I would like to get into gold, but I’m being careful not to stretch myself too thin with investments. I would like to buy some land and install some utilities. These days in real estate, I feel the value of the land underneath buildings is less volatile than the structure itself. Housing prices are bloated everywhere. And we’re starting to see some weird property taxing logic in the bigger town we live in.

@Chanel Jones Congrats on the MPH! Where did you go to school? My Alma mater for my MPH is University of South Florida. A lot of fond memories there.
