Hi Guys. I just wanted to introduce myself
Hi everyone, I've been following Charlie for a little while, and I recently purchased the How to Post guide. I'm interested in learning how to write online and, hopefully, turn it into a side business. I already write in my spare time, but it's mostly about history, religion, culture, and anthropology. Right now, I'm currently working on a book about the history of different religious movements. Parody is a bit different from the kind of writing I usually do, but I'm excited to learn and give it my best shot. Great to meet you all!

Hey Chris. Is there an angle you're thinking on how to turn it into a side business? Just get paid for impressions? Best of luck!

@Chris Haynes Cool. Seems like you're in the right place then!
Stuck at Zero
Alright nerds, I guess I'll start. Rn I'm not seeing $10 of value but if one of y'all can solve this problem, I'll give Charlie another month lol. I started writing on Medium a couple years ago. I leaned very heavy into AI and was getting good traction. My whole strategy was Google seo and it was working. I turned on monetization and things were working great for like a week until Medium changed their paywall method. Free users used to get up to 3 daily paid articles. Now it's zero. My Google bounce rate tanked and so did my viewership. At this point, I was having fun with the process, so I decided to actually write what I cared about. AI was used for research or for improving readability, but I was doing the writing. I was making pretty consistently $20+ a month on the low-end, and that's with a very small following (I'm still under 300 followers on Medium). My big mistake was not making an email list, but oh well. Live and learn, right? Anyway, all that to say that I have the infrastructure setup now. I have a Gumroad for ebook leads. I have a substack created to double post my articles. I have a bunch of outlines and ideas written, but I can't for the life of me get myself to write. I now have two kids, a full time job as a teacher, and a part time job with my church. I'm always exhausted and always tired. I know what to do. I know even something like 10-15 minutes a day would be enough to get the ball rolling. I just can't bring myself to sit in front of my computer and write. I'm going through some family stuff so I know I have some kind of acute depression going on with all that, but still, the struggle with executive functioning is very frustrating. Has anyone been in a similar situation before? How do I get out of this slump and get back writing? Any thoughts or tips?

@Charlie Light what's your take on substack vs beehiiv? Maybe I'm just brainwashed by Tyler Frank's tweets, but it really does feel like Substack takes a lot of control over your audience. Though if you're saying the platform itself helps you grow that audience, I can see the use case.

Pivoting the Girdley newsletter to (very) shortform. Tuesday's issue (apologies for the email wall) https://newsletter.girdley.com/p/where-s-your-mecca

@Charlie Light Seems that way. Much lower unsub rate per issue when we chopped it down. Most of our new subs are coming from YouTube and Facebook these days, so my theory is that shortform is less intimidating for the video audience.
Behind the scenes
I recorded this video that shows my process for writing a post The post I made in the video did well and got over 2k likes so far Is this format useful? If so, I can record some more videos like this exclusively for this group https://youtu.be/3kyCfMgc_1o?si=goi6BIBSDx80r7Vx

I like the format. I'd be interested in your take on some of the common building blocks you use when putting these accounts together (e.g. names that are verbs, finding the repeatable angle). You're over 3k likes now! https://x.com/chasedownleads/status/2070190293635547439
Welcome to Solo Writers
Welcome to Solo Writers! This group is for people who write about business online. That includes people building a personal brand, content agency people, ghostwriters, meme account writers, shitposters, and anyone else who likes to write online about business. This group is all about sharing: - Our writing - Formats that are working - Content ideas - Job opportunities - Memes - Results from our writing businesses - And anything else related to writing online Feel free to introduce yourself and link to your work - and let us know how you can help the group, and how we can help you A quick intro from me: I'm Charlie Light. I run parody accounts for a living. Accounts I run right now have over 900,000 followers (primarily on X), and I've generated millions for myself from X/Twitter. My biggest parody accounts are Chase Passive Income and Mason Home Builder. I used to run an agency, but now I just take on a few clients at a time and only write about topics I enjoy. My core belief about content is that good writing comes from a place of creativity and interest; you can only create great content when you're willing to be creative and experiment. I created this group to help writers unlock the great content they have inside their heads. My personal X account is @charlewrich.

Hey folks. I write/edit newsletters, social content, and do punch-ups on video scripting for Michael Girdley & some related accounts. Also published a couple of books for kids, and do editing for creative writing/fiction (from plot work to line edits). I love working on story - angles, pacing, curiosity. I find it easy to put out content regularly for clients, but rarely hit publish for myself. Looking to change that. Edit: Oh and I guess I'll add: x.com/_willstaunton
