Introducing: the typographic classroom
Hello! I'm happy to announce the classroom – an evolving place for more structured content. We'll publish mini courses, resources and other valuable insights toward the Typographic North there. For now, we start by introducing this group and encouraging engagement in the community. If it has been a while and you feel like reintroducing yourself, you're welcome to write a post in the new 'introductions' category. Please state - your name - your location - your favourite typeface After having done so, please find two other introductions and comment on them. This way, you’ll get to say ‘hi’ and spark new conversations. See you in the comments!

@Kristen Hus, I just saw that you've got a bunch of amazing content in the community from when you launched last year. I'd like to suggest you create a course and connect that material. Here's how it would work… 1. Create a course of "typography lessons" or some other such title. 2. Create a page for each topic of community comments. 3. Then go back to the comments and use "Pin to Course Page". You can pin multiple to the same page, which is why step 2 suggests using "topics". This will help to keep old content available and easy for new people to find. You've created some excellent long-term content there that shouldn't just scroll off the bottom of the page, IMO!

That sounds terrific, @Kristen Hus! If you'd like a tour of the way I put mine together, I'd be happy to show you around.
Hello!
I'm Wesley. I have a longstanding love-affair with books, but less with type, so I thought I'd join you to see if I could get some education on the topic. My favourite font is Papyrus. I would never use it, but there's something that resonates deeply with me. The writing I self-publish is all written in Markdown, translated to LaTeX and then compiled. Purists will probably be horrified, but I find it easy to get above average results with very close to no time spent on formatting.

@Kristen Hus, you made my day with this comment! 👏 Thank you!
What publishing software do you use?
There are lots of different people in this group, some are more writers than designers, others are more illustrators than typographers. Many interests, joined in a common appreciation for letterforms. For those who use the computer to prepare texts for publishing – either for print or digital – what software do you use THE MOST? I'm sure we all use various tools from time to time, but the poll only allows one choice – your primary tool in your work. And, please add context in the comments!

I'm a Markdown -> LaTeX enthusiast - but for my own projects, so the stakes are extremely low. I usually get better-than-average results with very close to 0 effort.

@Kristen Hus, yeah, it's definitely great for math! There are document types that get most things right out of the box. Which for a non-expert like me is extremely helpful.
Hello
Hello everyone. My name is Ryan. I live in the US. It is difficult to name a favorite typeface as there are so many I like. Also, it depends on the application. I like Tungsten for headlines. Baskerville for body copy is quite nice, but I also find myself using Surveyor a lot. I started out as an editor at a publishing house about 15 years ago, but over time I became more of a designer (illustrated non-fiction titles). I've also gotten involved with branding in recent years (hotels, restaurants) but book design is still my bread and butter. Thanks to Kris for setting up this community where a bunch of type nerds can meet. Looking forward to connecting.
