Hi, I’m Viel (please feel free to call me V). I am a healthcare IT administrator by day, but my passion is martial arts. I’ve been studying and teaching martial arts for 13+ years with certifications in 3 different styles, including a 4th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor in Korean Tangsoodo (think Chuck Norris and Cobra Kai). I am the owner of Mobility Primed Martial Arts with a mobile operation model. I teach students mostly on a 1:1 or one-time workshop basis. In the martial arts industry, it is fairly common for experienced / higher-ranking students to start teaching classes under the head instructor (studio owner) either as a volunteer or in exchange for free classes. This is how I obtained most of my teaching experience but eventually found a different path that is unorthodox to the industry. And this unorthodox path has its pitfalls. While I’m taking a break from teaching this year, I would like to learn how to be a better coach overall: Learn more about student engagement and retention and how to avoid coaching burnout. I am curious to learn from coaches in the CrossFit industry - it’s my hope that looking outside the outdated martial arts studio business model will reinvigorate my love for teaching martial arts.
