Anxiety sucks!
What do you do to keep the anxiety from winning? How do you help your child do the things they want to do and not let anxiety and fear get in the way?

I think this is tricky when your kiddo also can't admit they are anxious. We find that keeping everything calm before competitions helps - getting their early - but not TOO early, having gum, and reminding her of positive things she's been working on to boost confidence seems to help. I think a post competition slogan that has helped a lot has been to JUST say, "I really enjoyed watching you play today". No comments on abilities (even if they were amazing), just joy in watching participation. I've noticed this has made small stacking strides for our oldest. Finding ways for her to connect with her teammates also helps her feel more confident.
New season/New team anxiety.
Hey sports parents! Have you ever had a situation like this: It's the start of the new season and your little athlete is SCREAMING that they don't want to go, when just last week they couldn't stop talking about how excited they were for the new season. Now they are saying they want to quit! It's so confusing and stressful for everyone involved. What strategies have you tried to get through situations like this? There are a lot of options, some work better than others. Anyone brave enough to share your stories or some advice?

When things are different they feel harder. Last season you knew what to expect from your coach and your teammates by the end of the season - now you have a less predictable practice because it’s possibly a new coach and new teammates. Even if you like your teammates - you don’t know how they’ll be at practice yet. Or how you will “measure up” to them. Flexibility is tough for their little brains!
Poll question!
What do you actually want to talk about in this community (besides the mystery of the missing sock)? 😅

All of it! But also - Helping kids build confidence even when they don’t make the top team. How to continue to build confidence and teach them to accept the news and keep playing.

Mom to 2 daughters who love sports! Not only do we parent them through their athletic journey - we are coaching them most of the time as well!
