10-Minute Composition Drill
Let’s get out of our heads for a bit and just make something. Before you start, throw down a quick grid on your page: 6 to 9 boxes~ do what you're feeling~ Set a 10 minute timer ⏱️ Then just go~! Fill each box with a different thumbnail. Fast~ Loose~ Don’t overthink it~ Pay attention to: • composition • light vs dark • shape + movement • overall mood This isn’t about making something “good.” Have fun and explore, be messy, be loose, and let whatever medium you choose flow~! When you’re done, drop your grid below 👇 Which one pulls you in? Which one surprised you? Sometimes the best ideas come from the ones you didn’t give time to overthink~!

This would be really great for the comic strip philosphy. Put down the rough draft and then edit later!
WIP Wednesday 🎨✨
Alright~ what are we working on this week? Sketches, half-finished paintings, messy layers, weird experiments, “I don’t know where this is going but I’m in it” pieces… all of it counts. This is your mid-process check-in. No pressure. No perfection. Just progress~! Some of the best work doesn’t look impressive yet~ and that’s exactly why we share it here. Let’s see what’s taking shape 👀

There is something called the Great American Quilt to celebrate America's 250th anniversary/birthday. I got to help put some of it together this week~!
Lifestyle Photos
Lifestyle photos matter more than you think. Not because they’re “pretty.” But because they answer a question your audience is already asking: “Where does this fit in my life?” A bookmark on a desk is a product. A bookmark inside a well-loved book, next to morning light and a cup of tea~ or dried flowers~ that’s a moment. That’s connection. You don’t need a full studio setup to do this well. Start simple: • Natural light (window > overhead lighting) • Real environments (your desk, your studio, your home) • Objects that support~ not distract • Let the work stay the focus Think in scenes, not just shots. Where would someone actually use this? What does it feel like to hold, use, or live with your work? Lifestyle photos aren’t about perfection. They’re about context. And context builds trust. If you’re up for it~ (no pressure) share one lifestyle shot below 👇 (or your first attempt—we’re building this together) Thank you @Christopher Foster for taking these~! They turned out great~!

What a. great thought...not just. How we work our art but how we live it!
Friday Check-In 🎨
Before the week wraps up, take a moment to look at what you created, explored, or moved forward. It does not have to be finished to matter. A sketch, a new idea, a small breakthrough, a lesson learned, a project that finally started moving again~ every little bit, it all counts~ Creative work is not only about the polished result. It is also built from experiments, problem-solving, practice, and persistence. What did you make, discover, or move forward this week?

I have a sewing "make up" scheduled for tonight!
Spring~!
Spring is starting to show itself~ and you can feel it in the work. New ideas surfacing. Old pieces being revisited. Some things gaining momentum, others falling away. Not everything we create is meant to be carried forward. Some work is here to be developed. Some work is here to teach us something~ and be left behind. Where is your work at right now? 🌱 Early ideas, rough sketches 🌿 Building and refining 🌸 Pieces coming into full form 🍂 Letting go of something that no longer fits Every stage has value. Every stage is part of the practice. Drop where you’re at or where you're going 👇

@Hansheng Lee I took a class at a local museum on drawing short comic strips. You go from the classic plot line (or age old moral) and update it to present day. I just won't force myself past the idea phase!
