FREE VIRTUAL TRAINING REMINDER
Don’t forget to comment on the FREE VIRTUAL TRAINING post! If you haven’t already, head over to the training post and leave a comment letting us know what you want to see during the upcoming trainings. We want these classes to be interactive, useful, and focused on what YOU actually want to learn. Coming up, we’ll be covering topics including Dermaplaning + Chemical Peels, and we want to make sure you’re getting the information, demonstrations, product knowledge, techniques, and professional tips that will help you feel more confident in your services. 🎥 I’m also attaching a YouTube video below as a little preview. https://youtu.be/Ew4yVwiNVNA?is=dnpqMjtEV_ll8-aR This gives you an idea of the type of demonstration and teaching style you can expect during our virtual trainings. Your assignment: Go to the FREE VIRTUAL TRAINING post → COMMENT with what you want to see → then come back and check out the video. And if you have a skincare bestie who would benefit from these trainings, invite them into Skin EDU! Let’s make these trainings worth showing up for.

Hi! I was on the virtual training for chemical peels but unfortunately no one came in to conduct the class. Will it be rescheduled?

@Eric Robinson Hi! Yes, I received the link and was on the class but no one joined. It kept stating that I was the only person on the call. Did the class take place?
HAPPY SEPTEMBER, EDU COMMUNITY!
And a BIG welcome to everyone who is new to the community! 👋🏽 September is officially where we get back into the work. Classes begin September 11th, so if you’re new here, now is the time to get familiar with the community. Before we get started, I want to make sure everyone understands the difference between STANDARD + PREMIUM and how to get the most out of your membership. 📚 STANDARD MEMBERS Your membership gives you access to the community, trainings, discussions, resources, tips, vendor information, and everything being shared throughout EDU. For our live trainings, Standard members will have the training manual/content available as a read-along so you can follow along with the instructor, take notes, and apply what you’re learning. ⭐ PREMIUM MEMBERS Premium is designed for those who want to go a little deeper. You get an additional full hour surrounding the training — 30 minutes BEFORE and 30 minutes AFTER — where we can slow down, answer questions, break down situations, and talk about the things that don’t always fit into the regular training. Premium members also receive the training manuals directly by email, so you have your materials to keep and reference after class. So if you’re Premium, USE YOUR ACCESS! Don’t just sign up and sit in the room. Ask questions. Bring your client situations. Take advantage of that extra time. And remember — EDU is not just about watching classes. It’s about becoming better at what you do. We have A LOT happening inside the community: 📌 Mentorship 📌 Fact Friday 📌 Tips & Tricks 📌 Melanated Skin 📌 Product Knowledge 📌 Core Lessons 📌 Vendor Information 📌 Live Trainings 📌 September Series 📌 Community Discussions CHECK THE TABS AT THE TOP OF THE COMMUNITY. 👀 There is already information sitting there waiting for you. And here’s my challenge for September: 👀 INVITE ONE PERSON. Not somebody who’s just going to join and disappear. Invite ONE esthetician, skincare professional, student, or beauty professional who you KNOW is ready to learn, grow, ask questions, and actually apply what they’re learning.

MICRODERMABRASION: KNOWING WHEN, WHY & FOR WHOM
MICRODERMABRASION: KNOWING WHEN, WHY & FOR WHOM Microdermabrasion is one of those treatments that can seem simple on the surface — exfoliate the skin, remove dead skin cells, improve texture — but choosing when to perform it, when NOT to perform it, and which client is actually a good candidate requires a deeper understanding of the skin. In this intensive treatment lecture, we’re going beyond the basic steps of a microdermabrasion treatment. We’ll discuss: • What microdermabrasion actually does to the skin • The difference between mechanical exfoliation and other forms of exfoliation • Which skin types and conditions may benefit from microdermabrasion • When microdermabrasion may NOT be appropriate • How to evaluate the client’s skin before treatment • Understanding sensitive, dry, oily, mature, and combination skin • How Fitzpatrick skin type can influence treatment considerations • Common contraindications and precautions • How over-exfoliation can compromise the skin barrier • How to determine whether microdermabrasion is the right treatment — or whether another treatment would be more appropriate • Treatment frequency and client maintenance • Common mistakes estheticians make when performing or recommending microdermabrasion THE BIGGER LESSON As an esthetician, knowing how to perform a treatment is only one part of being a professional. You also need to know: WHY are you performing this treatment? WHO is the treatment appropriate for? WHEN should you modify or avoid it? WHAT does this client’s skin actually need? That is the difference between simply performing treatments and becoming an esthetician who can confidently assess, customize, and educate. This will be an intensive, lecture-style treatment discussion designed to get you thinking beyond the protocol and into the reasoning behind your treatment choices.

I’m ready to learn the “when” because where I work ppl are allowed to select it or add it on for any appointment and I don’t feel that it is always needed, but the response is “well I got it last time or the last esthetician told me it was needed”. It’s annoying and I refuse to throw others under the bus. I want to be able to say “this is why it’s needed or this is exactly why it's not needed”.
Stop Skipping Sunscreen!
Let’s talk about one of the most common skincare misconceptions: “I don’t really need sunscreen. I’m not outside like that.” Yes, you do. You don’t have to spend all day at the beach, work outdoors, or live somewhere tropical to make sunscreen part of your daily routine. Think about your everyday exposure: ☀️ Driving to work with sunlight coming through the windows ☀️ Sitting near windows throughout the day ☀️ Running errands ☀️ Walking from your car into work ☀️ Spending time outdoors between appointments ☀️ Creating content outside or near natural light And let’s clear up another misconception: your computer or ring light isn’t the same UV exposure as direct sunlight. The bigger concern is the cumulative UVA/UVB exposure you get from daylight throughout your day, including those everyday moments you may not even think about. SO WHEN SHOULD SUNSCREEN BE APPLIED? Every morning as the final step of your daytime skincare routine. A good general recommendation is a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. And sunscreen isn’t a “one and done” product. If you’re spending extended time outdoors, sweating, swimming, or otherwise removing the product, it needs to be reapplied. A common guideline is about every 2 hours while outdoors, with additional reapplication after swimming or heavy sweating. ESTHETICIANS — THINK BEYOND “PUT ON SPF.” This is where I want you to start thinking about your end-of-service recommendations. Don’t just tell your client: “Make sure you wear sunscreen.” Build them a daytime routine they can actually follow. Think: SERUM → MOISTURIZER → SUNSCREEN Or, when appropriate, a moisturizer that already contains SPF. The goal is to leave your client with skin that feels hydrated, comfortable, protected, and realistic for their lifestyle. And remember: not every sunscreen is going to feel the same on every client. Texture matters. Finish matters. Skin type matters. Their makeup routine matters. Their lifestyle matters. If your client hates how their sunscreen feels, they’re probably not going to use it consistently.

The number one thing I hear from sunscreen opposers is “I don’t want a white face or white cast” or “I hate how it looks under my makeup”. Which means to me that they just haven’t been educated on which ones to select to avoid that issue. That’s my time to shine!
STOP DOING THE SAME OLD SHIT TO YOUR SKIN.
Yeah. I said it. 😂 And this month, we’re not just talking about what YOU are doing to your skin. We’re talking about what your CLIENTS are doing to theirs. Because let’s be honest… How many of you have clients who: 🚨 Pick at their skin 🚨 Pop every pimple they see 🚨 Use 7 different products because TikTok told them to 🚨 Scrub their face like they’re cleaning a kitchen floor 🚨 Use body products on their face 🚨 Skip SPF 🚨 Over-exfoliate 🚨 Sleep in makeup 🚨 Don’t moisturize because they’re “oily” 🚨 Think burning = working 🚨 Think more products = better skin 🚨 Come to you AFTER they’ve already damaged their skin trying to fix it themselves And then they look at YOU like… “Can you fix this?” 😂 That’s where we come in. 🧠 THIS MONTH’S CHALLENGE: STOP DOING THE SAME OLD SHIT TO YOUR SKIN. And just as importantly… STOP LETTING YOUR CLIENTS DO THE SAME OLD SHIT TO THEIR SKIN. We’re going to use this series to start having real conversations about the habits we’re seeing in the treatment room. So I’m creating a SEPTEMBER SERIES discussion board specifically for this. 👇🏽 GO TO THE BOARD AND DROP ONE THING YOUR CLIENTS ARE DOING TO THEIR SKIN THAT MAKES YOU CRINGE. Don’t just say: “My clients pick their skin.” Tell us what they’re doing. Tell us what you’ve tried to educate them on. Tell us what you’re seeing over and over again. Let’s turn this into a conversation. And I’m starting with one that I think we NEED to talk about: 👨🏽 MEN + SKINCARE. How many male clients are you actually treating? Because I’ve been doing skincare for years, and a HUGE part of my clientele has always been men. And you know what I’ve learned? Men don’t necessarily hate skincare. A lot of them have just never been properly educated about it. They’ve been told facials are “not for them.” They don’t know what products to use. They don’t understand why they need professional treatments. And some of them don’t even realize how much their skin is being affected by shaving, sweating, products, lifestyle, and everyday habits.

@Jennifer Mcewen-knight I keep hearing this, especially from male clients. They buy body wash and use it on their face with their body scrubbers. I’m always flabbergasted no matter how many times I hear it.
