Tray Identification
How do you identify your trays? The current system I use is to label them with a removable sticker with the crop and expected harvest date.

If I need to mark a tray, I use these re-usable signs that can hang off the rack under the tray. I use a wet erase marker on them. https://a.co/d/96lRbgr

Oddly our broccoli is a bit wimpy this week, but the amaranth 😊 is making me happy. Just a touch of water daily… just enough to barely cover the bottom of the tray… works for us and our chefs. I’m hoping the broccoli will get jealous 😊. What crop is making you happy today?

@Mike Hicks that still blows my mind. I’m getting 22 at best and still sorting with the new seeds.

@Bill and Cindy Rooney Gorgeous!!
Cottage Food loop hole
I might have found a loop hole for needing a cottage food license (8 week waiting time) where I live! Popcorn, including flavored popcorn is listed on an exception list because it's low risk. If I'm preparing popcorn with all commercially prepared ingredients, which I would be at this point, I can visit the local health department for details. I will find out if it has to be prepared in a commercial kitchen or if my home kitchen is permitted. Wish me luck because I could really use the varied income stream at the farmer's market!

@LaReina Olson Me too. Although I was hoping because it fell on the exception list that I could skip some formalities. At least now I have a definitive plan of action and know what permit I need.

@Nancy Morales I’m ordering my equipment and supplies now. Fun!
Dirt vs water
Can we talk about the type of growing medium? I see many microgreen growers using water, coco coir, or silicone mats. I get that it’s all about minimizing costs, but don’t microgreens grown in water or on silicone mats have a different taste and lower nutrient value?

Spot on @LaReina Olson & @Nancy Morales & @Isaac Abbey Better flavor, better nutrients, and that hands into soil experience is no joke šŸ’š
Sanitization
Hello! How do you wash and sanitize your trays? Thank you!

We (let's be real, my husband) uses a 3 bin system because we don't have a 3 bin sink. 1 bin is hot sudsy water, one is for rinsing, the other is for sanitizer (also using the steramine tablets). It's done weekly. After harvest he cleans the trays from debris with a plastic paint scraper/putty spreader so they are clean of roots and dirt and stacks them up until wash day.
