Personal story to ask a question.
So my oldest son came home from the gym last night complaining of a pain in his right side. He told me how he was doing some ego lifting with his friend and I told him that he likely pulled or strained something. I told him to check his self for a hernia and let me know if he felt anything. To which he never got back with me so I assumed that he didn’t. However, within the hour, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that he was crawling across the hallway floor trying to get to the bathroom. I called out to him to see if he was just being dramatic or if he was actually in that much pain. He said he was in that much pain and that it was just getting worse so my wife took him to the ER while I stayed home with the other kids. It took hours of tests but they diagnosed him with appendicitis and removed his appendix this morning when the surgeon arrived. I tell this story to ask a question. I have 3 boys and this certainly isn’t the first time that I have had to rush one of them to the ER. When something happens to them or my wife, and it’s something that I know it’s out of my control, I still feel like I let them down, like I somehow failed to protect them, and then I go through months afterwards where I’m a helicopter parent/spouse, just to make sure they are ok. I don’t really know why I feel like that or do that. Does anyone else go through that same thing? Get that same feeling?
Be the change
Be the change that you want to see if the world is a saying that we have all heard. It’s easy when you hear this statement to internalize that you are just one person and what difference could you possibly make. My argument to that would be that exact thought is what keeps the world from changing. We are all just one person, but our actions are capable of inspiring, helping, leading, and motivating everyone within our sphere of influence. It is our job only to increase the size of that sphere and to practice what we preach, lead by example, and quite simply be transparent about the struggles that we have gone through in addition to how we got to where we are today. All it takes is to inspire change in one or two people who then go on to do the same in others to make a difference in our communities. If multiple communities then did the same then we are on the way to seeing a change in the world. Striving for excellence, honesty, and integrity are hard traits to come by. If you are already living a lifestyle the exemplifies those traits then you are already doing the hard part, the next step is just helping someone up with you. You don’t have to be perfect to create change. You just have to show up and be willing to grow and grow with others. The results of your hard work, dedication, and continued growth will speak loud enough for most people in the room to listen.

Week 2
Morning HIIT exercises and afternoon kettlebell or mace conditioning workouts. Taking more time read and reflect. Have been consistently strict with diet. Starting weight for the week 224.4 Ending weight for the week 222.7 I have had more energy than last week but still wouldn’t classify as high energy. Still need to consistently add an MMA specific training daily and work on doing more than one meditation.

@Alan Belcher what you said in the call today about not being able to shut your mind off and feeling low energy but restless and like you aren’t doing enough really resonated with how I feel most of the time. Sleep and self doubt have always been two things that I have struggled with. I am definitely my own worse critic when it comes to most things and don’t really let myself off the hook for even the smallest of things. As far as things I need help with, I am hoping to get down to ATT within the next two weeks or so and start training again. I just have to make sure the money is going to be there for it (or at least that is the excuse that I am giving myself for the last two weeks.)
