Thank you for the invitation.
I with my wife currently reside in Washington State where we surf the Salis Sea Straits in the winter and the coast from Cape Flattery down to New Port OR aping to fall. Wife and I both started surfing in our early 40’s and now that we are 53 we are looking to move and retire early in Japan. We look forward to the short 30min or less trip to our break of choice. With slightly warmer waters in the winter. Trevor and the Degree33 crew have been with us from the start. We owe them a great thank you. I’m a long board cruiser that loves to just chill on the board. My next goal is getting shorter around a 7’ - 7’4” that I can still muster up the paddle power to catch a wave. The 8’2” Easy Rider was great in that aspect. However I’m looking at a foot shorter now. Other than that I’m looking forward to a wave a day well into my 70’s and beyond. Something special about surfing in the snow.
Thank you for the invitation.

I thought Santa Cruz was cold. Respect to you Sammy on your dedication!
Surfing progression questions ⁉️🌊
What questions do you have about getting better in your surfing? Perfecting the pop up, barrel riding, picking the right board are some that come to the top for me. When you show up to the beach what is running through your mind? We will be planning out some video courses with @Mark McLaughlin this year and wanted to try and answer the questions you have. I want to make sure we answer most, if not all the questions you have. As always, thanks for any and all feedback!

A tip i got when young to improve in surfing was to surf more. Now that I don’t have as much time to surf and have aches in my body after 3 days in a row, I’m thinking, how can I catch the most waves and have fun. I learned on a long board over 30 years ago and now I’m starting to learn to long board. My next mission is to hang 10 and then walk back to complete a turn. Videos seem to help and some are better than others but again I think the best way to learn how to hang 10 may be to just keep trying and not give up. Any tips?

@Jake Hennessy thanks so much for the advice. I have a D33 8’ soft top and 9’4” Ultimate and will keep trying to cross step to get to the nose and back .
Californias worst ranked beach…
Imperial Beach was recently rated the worst beach in Ca (due to sewege coming from Mexico). Which leave us to surf it all by ourselves. Is it worth it? I think so! :) https://youtube.com/shorts/c2ua692XCzI?si=uVqDnKdHqAJ5QddM

I think it is worth it as long as you stay healthy. I grew up surfing Santa Clara River mouth which had ag run off and chocolate Barrels that were worth it. I once saw a diaper in the line up a Baja Malibu . It was worth it that day.
Classic Gun/Rhino score
A buddy of mine bought a log off marketplace and he lives like an hour + away. He asked me if I could scoop it for him, not a problem. While there, the guy I bought the board from was so nice. He just gave me this board as well! 10’ glassed in fins “Andrus” is the name on it. Sweet score, just thought yall would wanna see, any one got any info on the shaper or anything?

Nicaragua trip
Heading to Nicaragua's thunderbomb surf camp in just over a week! Any tips, advice about the area, what to pack, etc? First vacay away from the kids for hubby and I, nervous but so excited! Any tips on prepping our kids for no parents for a week (they’re 3 & 1)? Or tips on prepping the grandparents!

Hi Laura, sounds great. I hope you can trust your parents with the kids and enjoy every minute with your husband. I went to northern Nica once and got the best long lefts at Puerto Sandino where you need a boat and low tide. Where you are going has amazing beach breaks. Looks like your staying near the Boom which is epic at mid to high tide. The other good thing about that area is it’s uncrowded. Here are some sites for tips https://www.surfline.com/travel/zones/north-nicaragua/32oV6EwfWIJpP8Wt8V2o2x https://www.lasdunassurfresort.com/the-boom-nicaragua-one-of-the-most-amazing-waves-in-central-america/
