Resumes anyone?
I’m not quite 40 yet, 39 currently, and I have certainly seen this major shift. It’s almost as if having more than 7 years experience on a resume is creating an impossible hurdle now. Despite any accolades or accomplishments. I’ve heard more, ā€œyou’re over qualifiedā€¦ā€ and ā€œwe’re looking for experience in ā€˜toasters’ do you have that?ā€ And that’s if I hear anything at all. So, here’s my resume attached. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/6410cc7a7b2f865e04a2ef0e/t/692df304070d421b4326fc2d/1764619012529/ChrisWojcicki-Resume.pdf Ive removed all design elements from it so it’s just a straight forward black and white resume. Of which I’ve also been told by many at this point, that this is the way to go. Curious about people’s thoughts, comments, and I’d be interested and happy to review anyone else’s that is willing to share.

Hi Chris - I have heard the dreaded overqualified word far too many times to count. Yes, exactly - or it's "we're going with a candidate that speaks French which is vital to the role but mentioned nowhere in the job description or 8 rounds of interviews you survived." I'm no expert on resumes, so I'm just giving my opinion - but you use a lot of words that make it appear that you are supporting vs leading a process - "helping sales and marketing etc" As a result it is difficult to see YOUR accomplishments. I'd suggest you have a think about what you can claim (I get the drive to be humble or just be real that it was a team thing vs you running the touchdown solo with no help from anyone) but you DID play a senior role in this work - so you can talk about cross functional collaboration with sales and product teams and what YOU did. You increased the social stuff by 125%? lead with that, put the managerial stuff (which again sounds a bit passive - i onboarded a team - sounds like you handed them nametags - you led a team, so showcase what that was like. None of these is a silver bullet - I'll happily share my resume (that hasn't gotten me much traction tbh and I do update it for different jobs and I'll take any feedback you have.

I'm way too close to the project so if anything stands out, i'll happily take note. Also - just turned 47 here - I'm sorry you're facing it at 39 - let's find a way to beat this :)
