Fairy house in progress
Today we got the basic structure of the house itself built (still have to wrap bark around the outside and create a roof. It will be two stories, with either a ladder or spiral staircase). I also learned how to use a band saw to make lots of books for the bookcase. They will be sanded and painted, but the blocks are cut. Three more weeks till the contest. 🤞🏼 I now understand what you meant about scale @Janet Merz - the contest requires the house to be at least 12”x12”, and max 36”x36”. That’s huge in fairy terms! 😂

@David Terrazas appreciate the vote of confidence! I feel a bit in over my head at the moment. I watch these creators who’ve spent years honing their craft on Instagram make it look so easy and then i struggle to cut a popsicle stick 🤦🏻‍♀️

I made another bookcase this time all wood books

Looking good! I think you could add some color to the books, or at least some of them to add variety.
1st Fairy House
Sorry, but it looks more like a Fairy Hunting Cabin than a fairy house...lol. I still have to stain the front timbers, but I have been working on this for a while and just wanted to get it out here. All materials were from my own backyard and the creek across the street from my house. There is also a new chair and stone table on the right and my original ladder and rope bridge. The 3rd image is the back side of the fairy house. Was trying to create a cobble stone look. I was not completely satisfied with it, but will continue to improve upon it. So that is why it is the back side of the house.

That’s so cool! Not all fairies are girls 😉 I like the cobblestones! I want to incorporate them but find it intimidating. What don’t you like about how it turned out?

@David Terrazas ah, ok, if I zoom in and look for it, I see what you mean.
Stone build
I picked up this sheet of tiles on a walk last week after spotting it on the side of the road. I instantly fell in love with the colour and texture of the stone. As always, I have no idea what I’m building—I just let the materials lead the way. I used an old picture frame as the base and cut the tiles to fit. I stripped the backing off each piece with a knife before gluing the stone onto the frame. A woodworking friend gave me a bundle of cedar strips, which I used to build the walls. The flooring is made from coffee stir sticks. For the roof, I found a piece of bark and added a branch I cut from a bush last fall. The last photo shows the build in its current state. I’ll keep refining the roof, add another section of flooring beneath it, and then move on to the moss work and all the little details that bring it to life.
