I see a lot of fellow breathwork coaches talk about "Nervous System Regulation", "Trauma Release" or "Healing" when they talk about breathwork. And I know that breathwork can be used to do all of that and that breathwork still is underestimated what it can do in the medical world to help people.. But that is not where it stops.. I think there is a whole layer of benefits on top of that! After all the healing and regulation has been done, breathwork can be used to improve ourselves as people. 📈 To start with the physical health: doing breathwork on a daily basis improves your lung strength, it massages your organs and you can literally cleanse your body and improve your cardiovascular health. 🫀 It is proven that people who practice breathwork regularly, on average live longer than people who don't.. 💪 But if we also have a look at how breathwork can help us to improve our quality of lives and how it can help us to achieve our goals, we see that breathwork can add another layer in which we can work on ourselves: - By practicing breathwork on a daily basis, we can train ourselves to sit still and focus on just one thing, the breath. Everyone (except maybe monks or real yogi's) get's distracted and their mind wanders off... But this is where we can really train our focus. By pulling our attention back to our breath every time we notice we drift off, we train our attention to go back to what we were focusing on: the breath. and the more we do this, the better we get at it. And soon we notice that in everyday tasks, it becomes easier to lock-in and focus on your task 🔍 - The second thing is, we can train to sit with discomfort. Breathwork is not always pretty and peaceful. sometimes it is a struggle, we can feel restless and all we want to do is get back up and start doing something else. When we sit on our meditation cushion and we feel little aches and pains in the lower back or the hips, we can use this as an excuse to get up and stop with the breathwork session. But we can train something really important here. If we decide to sit through it, we can train ourselves that we not always have to flee discomfort and find some comfort in it. I often feel amazing after a breathwork session where I felt restless and uncomfortable but I sat through it. And to make the link to everyday situations, for me it is way easier now, to go through uncomfortable situations, without trying to flee from it - getting more done! 💪
