Speaking up at work doesn’t mean being aggressive. In fact, one of the biggest problems is that people try so hard to avoid sounding confrontational that they become unclear. 🎯 The key is to be clear, calm and specific. Instead of hinting around an issue, explain what you’ve noticed and what you want to discuss. For example: ❌ “Things have been a bit off lately.” ✅ “I’ve noticed the last three reports were submitted late, and I want to talk about what’s causing that.” That’s direct, but it isn’t aggressive. 💡 Being assertive means saying what needs to be said clearly, while still treating the other person with respect. 🎁 Start with the free Building Self-Esteem & Assertiveness course inside the Confidence & Self-Awareness Pathway. Being able to explain something clearly is one of those skills that can make a big difference at work. A lot of people lose their message because they give too much background, repeat themselves, or try to explain every detail at once. A simple way to make your point clearer is: ✅ Start with the main point Say what you actually want the other person to understand first. ✅ Give one reason Explain why it matters. ✅ Add one example if needed Keep it short and relevant. ✅ Then stop Give the other person a chance to respond or ask a question. 💡 A useful phrase to start with is: “What I’m suggesting is…” Then explain the reason behind it. Clear communication isn’t about saying more.
