How do you store your seeds?
I know this topic has been discussed before, but I think it’s great to hear what works for everyone. I used to keep my seeds randomly in a large envelope or ziplock bag. But when I started gardening again, I realized I like to be able to see my collection. I put everything in old binders with card sleeves. I chose categories that worked for me (Alliums, Brassicas, Flowers, Fruit, Herbs, etc.) I then heard about using an inventory sheet, and that was just the best thing I added. The most important part being expiration dates on the inventory sheet! So now I can look for my oldest seeds on the sheet without having to look at each and every envelope. How do you store your seeds? What didn’t work for you? Please share with pictures!

@Dennis Wichter I decided not to do the seasonal way since I’m growing hydroponically indoors. So tomatoes in the winter, why not? I literally just put this together last fall! I love looking through it! And I had to organize it somehow to keep track of what I had. It was just madness before. I was at the library recently and their shoebox of seeds for their hydroponics system almost made me crazy. 😂

@Julie Vigil Unfortunately, not for trading or giving away. (I’ve been asking and trying but corporate mumbo jumbo won’t allow them to have seed libraries even though some have had it before.) 🤷🏻‍♀️ But some locations have hydroponics units and I’ll attend their classes. And at the last one, we could germinate some seeds for home use and that’s how I saw the mixed up box of seeds.
Old seeds v. new seeds
Welp, I learned the hard way that old seeds really don’t do as well as new seeds. I’ve tried three rounds of germinating seeds (bush and pole beans) in trays and twice direct sown, and I don’t think I’ll get anywhere w them. I’m bummed. I had several varieties I really wanted to try, but the seed packets are more than a couple years old, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised they’re gonzo. Hopefully it’s not too late in season to try one more time! So, I’m at the grocery store today and I see a bag of “15 Bean Soup.” I figured it can’t hurt to try some of these — and you can’t beat the price, 15 bean varieties for under $3.50! 😂🌱👍🏼 — and if it still doesn’t work, I guess I can always make soup. What do you think, am I silly for trying this? Have you grown beans or anything like it this way?

@Dennis Wichter Nah, not horse flies thank goodness. Just those ugly house flies that go into your house the moment you open the door.

@Julie Vigil I did see a few out there this morning…not sure what happens to all of them though. I put them next to some aphids and they didn’t do anything to them. 😕
