2026 / Jan / 28 Figure drawing session in Bali
I went to a figure drawing session yesterday. Compared to the session last week, the model was much chabbier, and it was difficult for me to get a proper proportion. I tried the process Chris explained in his book, i.e. 2D Gestural line -> 3D form -> shadow.

2026 Jan 26 Practicing with Chris's book
I've been practicing my croquis drawing by copying from Chris's book. I'll be back tomorrow for another croquis session.

This week's practice in Bali
I was travelling for a while in Japan and haven't posted in a while, but I've been practicing whenever I have time. Recently, I've been copying Chris's book. I post one of them. And yesterday, I went to a croquis session in Bali for the first time in a while. This was a 20-minute drawing. At the same time, I post a video of what the other participants drew.

1 How long have you been drawing/practicing/studying realistic figures? I started around 2002. I think it's been a little over three years. 2 Who were some of your inspirations for figure drawing? Lane Brown recently, but of course, Chris, Stave Huston, etc. 3 What drawing books do you own? What are your current favorite drawing books? I leant my drawing with The Art and Science of Figure Drawing, Brent Eviston. I have "The Quick Pose: A Compilation of Gestures and Thoughts on Figure Drawing" by Erin Meads beside my bed now. 4 What classes, workshops or courses have you taken before (if any)? I did online course from Brent Eviston, before. 5 Who are your current Top 5 favorite artists? Lane Brown, Minoru Hirota, Hayao Miyazaki, Erin Meads, and Chris ;-)
